Surviving Or Thriving?

Building Resilience

The ability to bounce back when things get shi**y.

The ability to withstand setbacks, and to adapt and grow in the face of difficulties.

How often have you said to yourself "seriously, can anything else go wrong right now?" or "its been one of those days/weeks/months or years!"

Resilience is  a crucial skill that allows us to navigate all the 💩 that life throws at us with strength and grace (with some ugly crying thrown in for good measure!)

It doesn't mean "Unaffected by" It's about knowing how to process your emotions in a useful and timely way and then letting go, taking the learnings and moving forwards. Thats different to pretending that everything is fine.

We build resilience over time and get better at knowing what we need when things get tough.  The ability to move back to neutral faster, not get knocked off balance as easily are skills you can learn and a big part of the work I do with people.

Its not about just surviving in tough times; it's about thriving despite them.

Here are some strategies to help you cultivate resilience in your life:

☑️ Managing the thoughts and meanings you make of different circumstances. What people say or do, friends leaving, things going wrong are all amplified but the thoughts you generate by these events.

☑️ Cultivate Self-Compassion: Treat yourself with kindness and understanding, acknowledge your struggles without judgement with the same compassion you would offer a friend in a similar situation.

☑️ Build your circle. invest in the relationships that have your back. Friends, family and mentors you trust.  Those who will provide encouragement, empathy, and practical assistance when needed will all help with your resilience.

☑️ Know what rituals and habits help you to regulate calmness.  Yoga, Breath-work, meditations all help you to reground yourself (yet these are often the things that get dropped when we feel overwhelmed and we don't have time).

☑️ Build Resilience Through Adversity: Recognise that facing adversity is a natural part of life and an opportunity to build resilience. Reflect on past challenges you've overcome and the strengths you've developed as a result.

☑️ Seek Support When Needed: Don't hesitate to reach out for professional help if you're struggling to cope with adversity on your own.

☑️ Practice Self-Care: Prioritise your physical and emotional well-being by getting enough sleep, eating healthily, exercising regularly, and engaging in activities that bring you joy and fulfillment.

Building resilience is an ongoing process that requires patience, practice, and perseverance. Remember, resilience isn't about avoiding adversity—it's about facing it head-on and emerging stronger on the other side.
